BEFORE YOUR
FIRST FLOAT
Getting ready for your first Float session?
Here’s everything you need to know.
Each private room is equipped with a float pool and shower.
Be sure to sign the waiver before your appointment.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to your appointment for your induction and to watch the instructional video.
Float therapy is best done nude, so please be aware of that when deciding to float in pairs.
If you are menstruating, we ask that you please reschedule your appointment to a different stage of your cycle.
The buoyancy of the float pool helps you float effortlessly, so you needn’t worry if you don’t know how to swim.
Remember
Everyone’s first float experience is different. Some people relax immediately, while others take a session or two to fully switch off, and that’s completely normal.
Float therapy is most effective when experienced consistently. We recommend at least 3 sessions to unlock the full benefits, including deeper relaxation, reduced stress, improved sleep, and enhanced recovery.
Just like exercise or meditation, the benefits build over time. The more you float, the better it feels, and the more you’ll notice the difference in your everyday life.

Because floating is a completely natural process, you can float as much as you like, but it depends on your lifestyle. We have guests with chronic injuries who float every 3 days, and some who come in once a month to help with stress. It's completely based on your needs and the results you are after. Much like the gym, going once won't have the same impact as going consistently.
-
We recommend that you always check in with your GP first! Floating is popular with many pregnant women and is safe to enjoy with your doctor’s approval (up to 36 weeks). Being relieved of the weight of your bundle of joy provides much-needed relief to a lot of mothers-to-be.
-
Unfortunately not due to hygiene reasons. We recommend waiting until you're in an alternate phase of your cycle before coming in to experience float therapy.
-
We can assure you, we have a very extensive hygiene process at City Cave. Although your appointment is only 60 minutes, we allow 90 minutes for each session to give us the chance to clean and re-dress the rooms between appointments, as well as filter the pools. Our filters are designed for 10,000 litres of water, but the pools only contain 1000 litres. Each pool also has 400Kg (approx) of salt in them, so no bacteria can cultivate in this environment. Again, we require everyone to shower before and after their session to aid in hygiene.
-
No, even if you do fall asleep, you will be kept afloat thanks to the density of the water. You might get some water in your eyes, but that’s it.
-
You don’t want to be starving, or too full, when you have your session, as your stomach’s noises will distract from the experience. A light meal two or so hours before your session is fine, just be sure not to drink anything but water - no energy drinks, alcohol or caffeine.
-
No, and you will find that your skin feels smoother after your session - you don’t experience pruning as you would in a regular bath for the same period. Absorbing a large amount of magnesium, thanks to the Epsom salts in the water, is fantastic for your body!
