Why You Should Try Float Therapy As A Natural Remedy For Chronic Pain

Pain is a term we’re all pretty familiar with. At some stage in our lives, most of us will experience pain on some level - at the very least, we can relate to the term. But how many times have you experienced pain and almost immediately been told “it’s okay, it won’t last forever.” To most people, this brings a sense of solitude to an experience that is really quite horrible. However, with National Pain Week just around the corner, we’re reminded that this isn’t the case for everyone. Chronic pain is a real and extremely damaging chronic illness that impacts about one in five Australians - increasing to one in three for those aged over 65 - and here at City Cave, we want to show our support.

What is chronic pain?

We’ve all probably heard the term ‘chronic pain’ before and have a relatively surface-level understanding of what it means. In reality, chronic pain can show up in a number of different ways. According to Healthline, chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts at least 12 weeks. It may feel sharp or dull, causing a burning or aching sensation and may be steady or intermittent, coming and going without any apparent reason. It can show up in various different areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Headaches

  • Post-surgical pain

  • Post-trauma pain

  • Back pain

  • Psychogenic pain (pain that isn’t caused by disease, injury or nerve damage)

Sadly, many people who suffer from chronic pain are in pain for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This can have a significant impact on their daily lives as the never-ending experience can be exhausting.

Floating for pain relief

Float Therapy has been used as a natural pain remedy for many years now. Floating is renowned for it’s healing abilities, being emerged in magnesium salt allows you to feel truly weightless. This can aid with the relief of pain associated with arthritis, sports related injuries, migraines, back pain, joint pain and traumatic injuries.

Floating for muscle tension

The buoyancy provided by the magnesium salt solution offers relaxation for your muscles and relieves pain symptoms in your shoulders, neck, back and skull. Through this, floaters can experience relieved headache and migraine symptoms as well as physical muscular relief.

Floating & chronic pain

The benefits of float therapy are most prominent through regular sessions. We recommend implementing float in your self-care routine to see consistent results, and lead to longer term mental and physical improvements. The research of neurosurgeon Dr. John Turner and psychologist Thomas H. Fine has shown the impacts of floating on chronic pain. Their work indicates that your body releases endorphins and natural opiates during a float session that activates the pleasure centers of your brain. Dr. Fine reported, “practically all patients suffering from chronic pain claimed that they had forgotten their pain while floating.” This scientific data is supported by testimonials, with many of our lovely customers having experienced significant reductions in pain severity.

“This morning I woke up for the first time in 10 weeks pain free...I have 3 bulging discs & fibromyalgia. I’m am in shock at how effective it was...I will be making regular visits”
