Cultivating a mindful self-compassionate self: An experiential approach by Psychologist Kobie Allison.
Kobie Allison will provide you with a series of guided meditations and exercises to assist you to experience compassion for the self and others.
Mindfulness is about the clarity of observation and attention. Jon Kabat-Zinn, one of the world leaders in advocating mindfulness, suggests that mindfulness is a way of "paying attention to the present moment without judgement." Often we live in our thoughts (or inner creations), not in the moment surrounding us.
Self-compassion is simply giving the same kindness to ourselves that we would give others. The three elements of self-compassion are:
Self-kindness: self-understanding rather than self-punishment;
Common humanity: acknowledgement that everyone goes through this; and,
Mindfulness: neither ignoring nor exaggerating feelings.
Compassion focused meditations and exercises stimulate the soothing systems through; developing the inner compassionate self, developing compassion flowing out from one’s self to others, compassion flowing into one’s self and compassion to yourself.
